Where: Mediakite Training Center

Mediakite is offering:”Active Lens- Video Advocacy Workshop” a workshop primarily for members of Students for a Free Tibet (SFT). Using Mediakite’s top-notch equipment, activists will learn how to shoot, edit, compress, and upload their videos to various online sites.

SFT has been a major grassroots force in promoting the Tibetan cause through the use of strategic nonviolent action and creative use of technology. SFT has appeared in the international spotlight many times in recent years, including airtime on major television networks such as CNN and a spot on the front page of New York Times.

In the age of Youtube, Facebook, and other social media sites, the Internet has undoubtedly become the best way to spread information quickly and effectively. So, in order to expose the events, demonstrations, and protests happening around the world, SFT relies on the burgeoning power of the Internet.

For activists, a video camera is one of the strongest advocacy tools available. Activist organizations use video footage to promote their cases and denounce injustices.

By appealing to sight and sound, video proves to be a powerful tool that often leads to a call of action. By combining visual images with the universal reach of the Internet, video advocacy has become an immediate and effective way to promote social causes.

In keeping with our belief in human rights, Mediakite has been proud to support SFT through the years. This workshop is part of Mediakite’s ongoing commitment to train activists who are working selflessly for social causes.
